Christian Lutz’s work is based on a quasi-sociological observation of human groups: politicians captured in the artifice of official exercises or the financial elite investing in developing countries. Here, he denounces the large oil companies operating in Nigeria and the local negotiators. The discussions are tough or unequal, with each party interested solely in private gain, indifferent to any ecological consequences or harm to the population. While the formal qualities of his images are seductive at first sight, they nonetheless emanate a critical perspective that deconstructs the great wheels of power and their workings.
Christian Lutz was born in 1973 and lives and works in Geneva. He was invited by the Nuit de la Photo as the first recipient of the Nuit de la Photo award.
