Mazaccio & Drowilal’s relationship to images is influenced by digital and internet cultures. With a focus on the male gaze, eroticism, lol, icons, vision and the double, they produce works based on photographs taken by others, questioning the notion of authorship, but also the emotional and intellectual impact of media images and the way their materiality shapes their interpretation. They play on the discrepancy that emerges when two images are juxtaposed and combine traditional and digital photographic processes, which are then defaced with staples, tacks, adhesive tape, cellophane and spray paint.
Elise Mazac and Robert Drowilal were born in 1988 and 1986 respectively. They live and work in Villefranche-de-Rouergue and have been working as the collective Mazaccio & Drowilal since 2009. They are the invited guests of the Nuit de la Photo.
